Education
If education is going to be a priority in Tennessee, we should put our money where our mouth is. That’s why I support the “Education First” initiative. “Education First” requires the legislature to fund the education budget before any other item in the state budget is considered.
Our school children deserve to be educated in clean, comfortable facilities that are not overcrowded. The Tennessee Lottery has raised millions more than anticipated. I believe that once lottery scholarships are funded, excess lottery funds should be returned to local school districts to be used for K-12 school construction. This will also help stave off local property tax increases often used to cover the cost of new schools.
Immigration
I support a law requiring proof of U.S. citizenship before one can receive taxpayer-funded benefits and social services. We have too many needy people in our state without providing taxpayer-funded services to illegal immigrants.
Drivers’ license exams should only be provided in English.
Voters should be required to present photo identification before obtaining their ballot. Proof of citizenship should be required when registering to vote.
Taxes & Spending
I oppose a state income tax.
As a successful business owner, I know how to keep costs in line. As your state representative, I’ll work to control spending. I will oppose pork barrel projects and programs that have outlived their usefulness.
Jobs
I’m a member of the Local Workforce Investment Board that works with Walters State Community College. My family has built two successful businesses in Cocke County which employ approximately 50 people. I have the experience and contacts to attract new businesses to Cocke and Greene counties.
As your state representative, I’ll oppose unnecessary regulations on businesses that drive up costs on businesses and kill job creation.
I support tax incentives for businesses that relocate to Tennessee and hire local workers when relocating to our state.
Life
I am pro-life. I will support pro-life legislation. I strongly oppose partial birth abortion.
Clean water
Water is our most precious natural resource. We cannot tolerate another 100 years’ of contaminated rivers. As your state representative, I will vote to support the Clean Water Act.
